The HITEK Electronic Materials Alfa Romeo Championship heads to Snetterton in Norfolk next weekend for rounds 7 and 8 of an enthralling season that has developed as a multi class competition for overall honours.
After two meetings at the venue in 2020, the championship returns to use the popular 300 circuit and for the second time in consecutive race meetings will feature a reverse grid format in race 2.
Leading the championship at the halfway stage is Barry McMahon in his 156 turbo from George Osborne and Tom Hill in their Power Trophy class 75 and GT respectively. Ten points adrift in fourth place is the Twin Spark Cup 156 of Andrew Bourke with Richard Ford a couple of points behind. Taking into account dropped scores only 14 points separate the top six at this stage with James Ford within three points of Richard.
Joining Barry’s powerful 156 turbo in the Modified class once again is Scott Austin in the Fiat Turbo-engined 155, hoping to build on a good performance at Croft. We also welcome back the experienced Andy Page in his Giulietta 116 Turbo for his second outing after rejoining the Championship at Donington in May, adding yet more variety to the Alfa models competing.
In the Power Trophy, four time champion Tom Hill in his spectacularly driven Revs Italia GT will be joined once again by George Osborne’s immaculate and very competitive 75, with Dave Messenger’s Darnells supported 156 GTA and Andy Inman’s similar Revs Italia car looking to be close the gap to the class leaders this time out. Having made good progress last time out at Croft, Gabs Iaccarino is continuing his journey to competitiveness in his 3.2 litre GT having established himself as a real presence in the Championship.
The strongest class entry in terms of numbers is once again the Twin Spark Cup, where leader Andrew Bourke in his Bianco Motorsports 156 is joined by season regulars Richard Ford in his HITEK Electronic Materials 156, brother James in his familiar red 156 and Jon Billingsley in the recently acquired 147 that took a class win last time out at Croft. Simon Cresswell returns in his 156 after mixed fortunes at Croft and Steve O’Brien returns to the fray in his Motus One supported 156. It’s great to have Stacey Dennis back on the grid for the first time this year at a circuit where she has had strong results in previous outings. We also welcome Andy Winterton to the championship, who is sharing the ex-Dave Messenger 156 with Geoff Turral who raced the car at Donington and Croft. Completing the Twin Spark line-up is newcomer Colin Cunniffe. Colin is driving a Bianco 156 that was his prize for his success in the recent virtual racing championship.
