For the second year running, the Cadwell Park programme was condensed into a single day starting with qualifying at 9:00 am on the Sunday, following the optional test session on the preceding Friday.
To attempt to encourage some continuity and to make the weekend into a social occasion, a Saturday evening BBQ was organised which appeared to be welcomed by those involved and which may have contributed to an excellent entry of 22 cars for the competitive action on the following day.
The entry comprised the Modified cars of Jamie Thwaites, Barry McMahon, Jack Berry and Andy Page, the Power Trophy cars of Toby Broome, Stacey Dennis, Mark Skeggs, Simon and Chris McFie, and Jamie Porter, the Turismo cars of Nathan Bignell, Edward Robinson, Ben Brain and Jack Carter and the Twin Spark cars of Ian Fenwick, Dave Pickup, Steven Anderson, Marcus Robinson, James Powell, George Warren and James and Richard Ford.

QUALIFYING
The qualifying session was the first track action of the day at 9.00 AM. A sharp downpour had wet the track about half an hour before the session commenced but it had started to dry by the time the cars left the Assembly Area although conditions were likely to be tricky for the first few laps. Jack Berry set the early, albeit tentative, pace with a 2:14 that was immediately bettered by the treaded tyre shod Turismo class 147 of Jack Carter then the Twin Spark 156 of James Ford before Stacey Dennis posted a quicker time with the Power Trophy Giulietta. Jack Carter was the first to record a sub two minute time with a 1:58 on lap 2 after which Barry McMahon, this time driving the 156 turbo, then James Ford, Stacey Dennis, Jamie Thwaites and Barry once again all led the field, at which point the safety car was deployed as a result of Dave Pickup stopping on the circuit with electrical problems. The cars circulated behind the safety car for almost 4 minutes with Barry McMahon, Jamie Thwaites, Stacey Dennis, James Ford and Richard Ford occupying the top 5 places.
When the safety car pulled in the track had effectively dried and there was just time for 2 flying laps. Most drivers posted their best time at the end with Jamie Thwaites taking pole with a 1:41.048 from Barry McMahon second and Jack Berry third. Toby Broome was fourth in the Power Trophy 147 with a 1:49.46, Andy Page fifth, the Fiat Punto Abarths of Simon and Chris McFie sixth and seventh and the Giulietta of Stacey Dennis was eighth. Leading Twin Spark driver in ninth was James Powell with a 1:53.261 whilst the Turismo pole was taken by tenth place Jack Carter on 1:53.35 in his 147. Richard and James Ford were eleventh and twelfth in their 156 TS cars followed by Nathan Bignell’s Turismo class 33, Mark Skeggs’s PT GTV, Edward Robinson’s Turismo 156, the TS cars of Ian Fenwick and George Warren, the classic Turismo class Alfa GT Junior of Ben Brain, Jamie Porter’s PT 156, and the TS cars of Dave Pickup, Steven Anderson and Marcus Robinson.
RACE 1
Race 1 got underway at 11:49, with Barry McMahon electing to start from the pit lane after problems with the 156. Jamie Thwaites led the field away from his pole position slot with Toby Broome slotting in ahead of Jack Berry’s Mito as the cars swept around Charlie’s for the first time. Stacey Dennis also had a terrific start in her Giulietta and had managed to get past the Punto Abarths of Chris and Simon McFie and the Giulietta 116 of Andy Page by the time the cars descended through the Gooseneck on the opening lap. By the end of lap 1, Jamie Thwaites’s Giulietta had a 1.6 second advantage over Toby Broome’s 147, with Jack Berry’s Mito 3 seconds adrift of the leader and Stacey Dennis in fourth.

The leading Twin Spark car in 8th position was James Powell in the 147 just ahead of the leading Turismo car of Jack Carter. Next up were Richard Ford’s Twin Spark and Nathan Bignell’s Turismo class 33, with Barry McMahon having worked his way up to 12th on the opening lap. James Ford, Mark Skeggs, George Warren, Edward Robinson and Ian Fenwick were next, with a seven second gap to Jamie Porter, Ben Brain, Marcus Robinson and Steven Anderson. Dave Pickup had continued to have his problems after the race start and had unfortunately pulled off the circuit to retire his 147. Another early casualty was Ben Brain’s Alfa GT Junior that pulled off the circuit at Charlie’s on lap 2 to retire with a broken exhaust. It had been Ben’s first outing with the championship and it was great to see the classic Alfa lining up alongside the regulars on the grid! Jamie Porter was still getting to grips with the 156 that Gabriele Iaccarino had intended to drive. Jamie himself had entered in the 4C but had damaged the front end in testing on Friday and took over the 156 when Gabs had to withdraw his entry.

Jamie Thwaites continued to extend his lead over the next few laps with Jack Berry’s Mito getting past Toby on lap 3 who in turn extended the gap to Stacey’s Giulietta in 4th. Meanwhile, Barry McMahon had been working his way through the field and was right behind Stacey in 5th place as the cars started lap 5. He quickly moved into 4th on lap 5 and the leading cars held these positions throughout the race. Andy Page maintained his 6th position behind Stacey with the battling Puntos of Chris and Simon McFie in 7th and 8th. They held these positions until lap 12 when a problem was encountered by Chris that cost a few seconds allowing Jack Carter and the Ford brothers to get between them and to finish the race in those positions.

Mark Skeggs finished 5th in the Power Trophy in 12th overall with Jamie Porter completing the class in 18th overall.
In the Turismo class, Jack Carter took a fine class win and 8th overall in his 147 from Nathan Bignell in 14th and Edward Robinson in 16th. In the Twin Spark Cup, Richard and James Ford had passed early leader James Powell on lap 3 and contested the class lead for the whole race with Richard prevailing by less than half a second as the pair took the chequered flag in 9th and 10th positions. In 4th place was George Warren with Ian Fenwick 5th and Steven Anderson completing the finishers in 6th in class. Marcus Robinson had completed seven laps in his first race when the engine developed a terminal problem and he had to pull off near Charlie’s and retire the car.

RACE 2
Both Marcus Robinson and Ben Brain were unable to rectify their car issues so when the cars lined up in the Assembly Area just before 4:00 pm, there were two less than in the morning. Unfortunately, this was soon to become three as the Turismo class car of Jack Carter had developed a fuel leak and was unable to take the start. As a result, Jamie Thwaites led an 18 car field onto the starting grid to get race 2 underway with Barry McMahon once again electing to start from the pit lane due to clutch problems.

As the lights went out, the Giulietta TCR car of Jamie Thwaites got a clean getaway, with the cars of Jack Berry, Toby Broome, and Stacey Dennis all in pursuit. The Fiat Punto of Chris McFie got a tremendous start from 11th, taking advantage of a faltering Giulietta of Andy Page to launch himself up into 5th place behind Stacey’s Giulietta. James Ford was also able to take advantage of the position to take to the inside of the track and gain an advantage over Richard, emerging from Coppice as the leading Twin Spark car. Barry McMahon had also started smoothly from the pit lane and set about working his way through the field in his pursuit of the leading pack.
As the cars completed lap one, it was the Giulietta of Jamie Thwaites with a couple of seconds from Jack Berry’s Mito, with Toby Broome the leading Power Trophy car only a second and a half adrift in third. Then came Stacey Dennis, Chris and Simon McFie and Andy Page. Barry McMahon had worked his way up to ninth and had split the leading Twin Spark pair as they crossed the start finish line with James a second ahead of Richard. Nathan Bignell was a further second behind in the lead Turismo Alfa 33, followed by James Powell, Mark Skeggs, George Warren, Ian Fenwick and Edward Robinson 16th in the second Turismo class car. Dave Pickup, Jamie Porter and Steven Anderson completed the field as the cars headed on to lap 2.

On lap 2, Barry McMahon had further problems with the 156 and as he approached the bottom of the mountain with Stacey’s Giulietta in front, he caught the back of the Giulietta sending it into a spin where it came to rest across the track. Fortunately, the drivers following managed to avoid any collision and Stacey was able to continue relatively unscathed, although this incident had put her down the order in 13th place.
Barry was able to continue and finished the lap in 5th place having split the Fiats with Chris leading Simon into lap 3. Andy Page was next, followed by the Twin Sparks of James and Richard Ford, the 33 of Nathan Bignell, the GTV of Mark Skeggs in 11th and the Twin Spark of James Powell in 12th. Barry’s 156 continued to have problems and after a couple of excursions on to the grass during which it dropped back to 10th place, he decided to retire the car on lap 6.

Once Andy Page had recovered his position of 4th in front of the Fiats on lap 5, the leading 4 cars maintained their positions resulting in a second win for Jamie Thwaites, second for Jack Berry, third and leading PowerTrophy car for Toby Broome and 4th for Andy Page, Toby breaking his own lap record in the process.
James and Richard Ford played out another race long encounter for the lead with James this time in front as they crossed the chequered flag. The cars had been on the limit lap after lap, resulting in both drivers recording a time inside the existing lap record, Richard taking it by a couple of tenths as the cars finished a fine 5th and 6th overall.

Chris McFie was 7th overall and 2nd Power Trophy car after a superb drive from 11th on the grid, whilst Simon unfortunately had a number of tracking and suspension issues and had to retire his Punto on lap 11 when the front right tyre came off the rim. Stacey took the third podium spot after an excellent recovery drive, Mark Skeggs was 4th and Jamie Porter 5th in class.
There had been an interesting battle developing during the race for the 3rd podium spot in Twin Sparks with Edward Robinson’s Turismo class 156 caught up in the action! George Warren had got past James Powell’s 147 on lap 9 with Dave Pickup, Edward Robinson and Ian Fenwick in close attendance. Dave also moved up a place on lap 10 as did Edward Robinson on lap 11. George held on to take the podium for 3rd in class with Dave Pickup 4th, James Powell 5th, Ian Fenwick 6th and Steven Anderson 7th.
The Turismo class 33 of Nathan Bignell had to retire on lap 12 due to suspension damage leaving Edward Robinson the only car to take the chequered flag in 12th overall.
