Unfinished Project – Dallara X1/9 replica (1500cc)

Description

I bought the car 2 years ago in exactly the same state as you see it in the recent photos, I’ve literally pushed it from the trailer to garage and done nothing with it. It’s been sat in a warm/dehumidified garage during that time. I’ve not been able to begin work on it due to two other projects, so rather than it sit gathering dust, I figured someone else might want to take it on and make it the glorious car it could be.

Even though the existing windscreen is good, there is a new Ricky Evans Motorsport heated windscreen (BNIB £320 worth) with the car. The side windows and winding mechanisms are included in the sale of the car, they’re just not in the photos.

The GRP Dallara body kit (5 pieces), original rear inner arch liners, super wide BBS style wheels and tyres (x4) shown in the photos are included in the sale. The tyres are all old but they’re good enough to get it rolling around and arches set, if I were finishing the project I would buy new tyres before venturing out on the road or track. Front tyres look like new, but the dot markings say they’re made in 2007, the rear tyres appear to be Michelin wets, not e-marked for road use.

There is no interior with the car, as had been stripped by previous owner (no seats, no carpets, no door cards etc), as it was getting prepped to be a race car. There are various rubbers and trim pieces in the boot, I don’t know where they are from/fit to. The rear lights are with the car as per the photo’s. There aren’t any original bumpers or front grille.

The previous owner carried out the repair to the O/S rear quarter. The rest of the shell appears sound, with only a bit of surface rust here and there, nothing structural that I can see. I think it was at the point of the rear wing repair that prompted him to buy the Dallara kit to go on the car.

I was told the engine was a runner before being taken off the road, but I have not tried to start it, nor did I hear it running prior to purchasing. Aged coolant hoses, fuel hoses etc if keeping original engine (probably original). I’d planned to do an engine swap, so wasn’t bothered by these facts.

There’s a folder full of historical documents to go with the car. The car was last MOT’d July 2019. Registration A117 ODY if you want to do online checks.

This is the first X1/9 I’ve ever owned, so please don’t ask me technical questions about it, as I will not have the answers. Similarly I don’t know if trim pieces are missing, if the plan was to restore to original (non Dallara).

Vehicle currently SORN.

The car and all parts included in the sale will be ‘sold as seen’ and you’ll definitely need a trailer to take it away on/in, with room for the body kit, wheels and windscreen in large box.

If you want a good base to start your dream X1/9 Dallara replica race car, then this is the car for you. No need to feel a bit sorry for breaking up a good car, that bit has been done already.

Located near Chichester, West Sussex (not far from Goodwood (6 miles), if you wanted to tie a visit to the motor circuit in with the trip to collect the car).
