ONLY 2 WEEKS TO GO….!
The 750 Motor Club’s HITEK Alfa Romeo Championship’s season’s opener is only a couple of weeks now – at the Silverstone National circuit on Sunday 30th April. Get those entries in if you haven’t done so already! Let’s launch the new season with a big grid and great racing!
STACEY AND SYNETIQ
Stacey Dennis has reached agreement on a sponsorship deal with renowned Vehicle Parts, Car Sales and Salvage Auction Specialists SYNETIQ which will go a long way towards enabling her to do a full 2023 racing season in the HITEK Alfa Romeo Championship. Budget restrictions have limited this talented driver to only occasional race outings over the past couple of years but a regular drive is now in prospect. Well done Stacey! And well done SYNETIC for enabling Stacey to compete in this way!
Her first outing will be in a Twin Spark Cup car at Silverstone on 30th April while Bianco complete the preparations of a Giulietta for her from the Oulton Park International meeting onwards.
2023 SEASON AWARDS EVENING
I know it’s a long way off but just to let everyone know what we are planning. Our season ends later than usual this year – at Silverstone GP at the end of October. This doesn’t give us much time to finalise awards, organise the event and get trophies ready if we are aiming for the last weekend in November which is our usual date. After that either side of Christmas is an expensive time for most people so our proposed date is Saturday 3rd February 2024. We hope everyone will attend!
DIARY OF A CLUB RACER Part 1: 1st January to 29th April
Even though the winter break lasts some 6 months it always seems to end up being a mad rush at the last minute to get cars ready in time for the season opener! Why? It’s a mystery!
Here is instalment one of “Diary of a Club Racer”:
1st January
New Year Resolution headed “This year it will be different”
- The car will be ready well on time.
- I will find time for testing.
- I will be more professional.
- I will find a Sponsor.
12th January
Went into garage tonight to start work on the car – too cold.
10th February
Went into garage tonight – still too cold.
22nd February
Still too cold. Decided to concentrate on obtaining sponsorship. Telephone bill astronomical, sponsorship raised Nil. Learned several new words.
9th March
Entered for first race today. That will do for testing. Still too cold.
29th March
Started work on car today. Rediscovered piston on outside of block. Tried tank tape and plastic padding. Failed.
30th March
Went to Brands anyway as I had the tickets. Didn’t feel better.
14th April
New engine installed – car is ready. Polished it – felt better.
20th April
Car went well in practice but why is everyone else going faster? After 2 laps of the race the oil is flowing around the outside of the engine and most of the circuit. Still it slowed the others down a bit.
29th April
Fitted replacement oil pump. Polished car again, didn’t feel better. Partner moaning about the state of the garden, absence of household chores completed, and the oil stain on the lounge carpet.
Thanks to Tony Herbert for unearthing this gem. Stay tuned for the next instalment in a future bulletin!
