The Hitek Electronic Materials Alfa Romeo Championship makes its return to Oulton Park to contest rounds 9 and 10 of this year’s championship. Racing is once again on the familiar but challenging 2.69 mile International Circuit at this popular and picturesque Cheshire setting.
Toby Broome has successfully contested races in both the Twin Spark class and the Power Trophy class this year and takes a virtually unassailable overall lead into the final rounds which he is contesting in his Revs Italia supported 147 GTA. Second placed driver Richard Ford in his Power Trophy Alfa GT holds a slender lead in the overall standings from Twin Spark class leader Edward Robinson in his Revs Italia supported 156 and Modified class leader Jamie Thwaites in the Bianco Motorsports supported TCR Giulietta. The season runner up spot is almost certainly going to one of these drivers and their comparative class performances against other drivers in their respective classes will decide the outcome. Drivers occupying positions 5 to 11 in the overall standings all have a mathematical chance of claiming third overall if a strong class performance was accompanied by a set of other results that suited them, but realistically they will be looking to secure a good class result to finish the season off strongly.
In the Modified class, competition is once again very strong and Jamie will be joined by Lee Penn in the Modified 33 after his fine return to the championship drive at Brands Hatch. The Alfa Workshop entries of Steve Deeks in the 4C and Jack Berry in the Mito have performed strongly in their previous outings and should again be competing for class honours. Andy Page’s Giulietta 116 has been scoring points consistently at all races and Andy will be looking to consolidate his second place in class with a similar performance here. Steve Deeks could mathematically take second but it’s more likely that the two Alfa Workshop entries will be competing for the third in class for the season. We welcome Thomas Laudage once again in his 4C after his inaugural visit to the championship at Brands Hatch, whilst last season’s regular Mark Skeggs returns to the fray in his GTV following a rebuild by Bianco Motorsports.
In the Power Trophy, leader Richard Ford in his GT will be hoping to continue his consistant points scoring to maintain position, whilst Toby Broome in the 147 GTA and Stacey Dennis in the Bianco Motorsports Giulietta are closely followed in the points table by Nathan Bignell, having a very good season in the 33 and former champion Paul Plant back on the track with his Giulietta and having a break of sorts from the supporting role with the Bianco team. Dave Messenger has entered his 156 GTA in the Power Trophy once again and, although out of the running as far as the season goes, is certainly going to be in the mix for a podium or two this time out.
The leading Twin Spark Cup entrant is Edward Robinson, driving his Revs Italia supported 156. Edward has had an excellent season and has an unassailable lead in class. Joining Edward is reigning champion James Ford, reverting back to his Twin Spark car after encountering problems with his V6 car last time out. The Twin Spark class has traditionally provided some close, competitive racing at Oulton Park and should still do so although onre or two last minute entries would be most welcomed!
